the forgotten halloween.
halloween is my favorite holiday and the best time of year. this year, i let it completely pass me by. i only just pulled out my decorations the day before, and yesterday my students were so crazy, i came home and crashed out on the couch before i even carved my pumpkin. it sits lonely on my steps, feeling forgotten.

fall makes me hungry.
i'm trying my best not to make this today:
Hot Fudge Sunday Cake…
1 cup all-purpose flour
3/4 cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons cocoa
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup milk
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup nuts, chopped (pecans or walnuts)
1 cup brown sugar, packed
1/4 cup cocoa
1-3/4 cup hottest tap water
Preheat oven to 350F. In an ungreased 9 x 9 inch square pan. Stir together flour, sugar, 2 tablespoons cocoa, baking powder and salt. Mix in milk oil and vanilla with fork until smooth. Stir in nuts. Spread evenly in pan. Sprinkle with brown sugar and 1/4 cup cocoa. Pour hot water over batter Bake 40 minutes. Let stand 15 minutes. Spoon into dessert dishes or cut into squares and invert each square onto plate and top with ice cream. Spoon extra sauce on top of ice cream.

laugh about it, shout about it, when you've got to choose.
what did you do last night?
made chicken with panko bread crumbs, roasted red potatoes + kale which turned out to be a soggy pan of bread crumbs, potatoes that had to be scraped from the pan, + an almost inedible green mass. had a horrible ordeal with my nephew which resulted in tears, snot + disillusionment. watched a kid movie with a fake sea creature chasing really bad child actors around a summer camp, washed dishes for the millionth time this week + peeled wrappers off crayons for our crayon melting project today.
a friend sent me an email this morning asking what i did last night.
once i typed my response, i realized how truly comical, ridiculous,
+ laughable life can be. after all, the only guarantee we have is the current
moment + it's always better to find the humor in it than to take it too seriously.
hopefully today there will be more of this:

embellished journals.
here are some super cute journals i made recently:
making these is actually very fun + addictive. the photos really don't do them justice.
