grosgrain.

this dress is ridiculously gorgeous. don't you think? and she gave it away!

my new little flower.

i have not sewn since high school but lately i have really had the sewing bug. probably because of things like this and this. my mom is an expert seamstress. she has been sewing clothes for me for most of my life. this darling little machine was on sale and now i am ready to start making some things on my own again.

her children rise up and call her blessed...

this is my beautiful, sweet, amazing, and talented mom. i am so proud of her strength and perseverance in this life. i am so lucky to have a mother who is also my best friend in the world. we have so much fun together and always find the humor in everything. i would be lost without her. i love you mom! happy mother's day!

If your mother is watching, wear a helmet.

The view is better when you're not afraid of who's behind you.

this is some serious greatness.

blog post:

crazy pants.

a few weeks ago, i went to the mall with a good friend of mine who purchased a pair of severely baggy-crotched linen pants from jcrew. they were hanging off her yet looked somewhat fabulous. she was in heaven. i was slightly confused. until today...when i saw a similar pair at forever 21 for $20 and decided to try them on for kicks. just to see what all the fuss was about. and whoa! yes, they hang off me, yes they're mostly unattractive but in a fabulous sort of way, and they are the most comfortable things i have ever put on my body. i ♥ the crazy pants.

free day.

i'm taking the day off today! weeeeeeeee! at this time of year, teachers are hanging on by a thin thread. mine is unraveling a little more each day. time for a day of lounging, reading, catching up on some projects, and digging through old photos....

taking inventory.

i don't have a husband...
i do have a full heart.
endless hours of glorious solitude.
confidence and joy.
no regrets.
i don't have children...
i do have one darling and amazing nephew.
100 new students every year.
a spotless white sofa.
peace and quiet.
i do have all the cookies i want.
laundry for one.
the whole bed to myself.
freedom.
soul sisters.
a great mom.
and enough time to do a lot of good stuff...

pretty.

Where are we going?

We are going up to the city that glitters
Carrying a pencil, a pillow, a blue tin cup.
And nothing that weighs us down.
And nothing that weighs us down.
A thousand people will pass us by
With their frowns and flickers and fancy shoes.
We'll walk and not walk.
Among the blinking, thinking signs.
Who will notice we've come to town?
Nobody, wonderful nobody.
Everything we thought we knew
is different here, and just as true.
We'll make notes on what we see.
Serving the hot dog with dignity.
Who is the person I'd find again?
Which eyes will I remember?
