e.d.

i love emily dickinson with all my heart. when i was little, my mom cut out this poem from a magazine, framed it, and it hung above my bathroom sink until i left home. it had a monumental effect on the way i live my life and my love of poetry.

sweet dreams.

A long, long sleep, a famous sleep
That makes no show for dawn
By stretch of limb or stir of lid, --
An independent one.

Was ever idleness like this?
Within a hut of stone
To bask the centuries away
Nor once look up for noon?

~Emily Dickinson

mostly good.

They eat beans mostly, this old yellow pair.
Dinner is a casual affair.
Plain chipware on a plain and creaking wood,
Tin flatware.

Two who are Mostly Good.
Two who have lived their day,
But keep on putting on their clothes
And putting things away.

And remembering . . .
Remembering, with twinklings and twinges,
As they lean over the beans in their rented back room that
is full of beads and receipts and dolls and cloths,
tobacco crumbs, vases and fringes.

confetti system.

amazing pinatas i would never want to break.

spring dresses.

since i became a teacher a few years ago, my tastes have changed tremendously.
you have to be careful what you wear in front of a classroom of adolescent boys.
at the same time, you don't want to be boring and "teacher-y"...
all these dresses get an A in my book, plus they are all under $80.

vintage surprises.

my mom and i went to the Dallas Quilt Show today.
we found these treats among the quilts.
the bottom picture features bracelets made of buttons
and bakelite pieces. they were outrageously expensive.

memory jar.

i LOVE this idea.
it reminds me of the wailing wall from the secret life of bees which i also think is wonderful.
i have a thing for jars, memories, wishes, bees, and honey.
